Selby Library has collections of books in Spanish, French and German. There are a variety of novels both in translation and in their original language, as well as non-fiction items. In addition, there is an assortment of free informational pamphlets from the government written in Spanish on topics ranging from health to consumer protection that patrons may take for home use. The North Sarasota Library, has begun a modest collection of books in Spanish that include both fiction and nonfiction. The collection has been identified and labeled for convenience and is displayed in a separate area. The Venice Library has a traditional foreign language collection that includes well-known classics in several languages, including Spanish, French, Italian and German. The library at this time is actively seeking to enlarge the collection of popular fiction in Spanish. Many new books in Spanish are also available in the Youth Department. Jacaranda Library has a traditional foreign language collection which includes many well known classics, in Spanish, Ukrainian, Polish, Russian and German, for speakers or patrons who would like to practice their foreign language skills. The selection was created due to the needs of our local ethnic groups, but also includes books in Portugese, Hungarian, Dutch and some Asian languages. Library patrons will find a variety of books, from classics to contemporary, from native authors to the popular American translated titles, as well as fiction, nonfiction, biography, for children, young adults and adult patrons.
