Materials In the Sarasota County Library System Catalog
You may place a request for a circulating library material if:
- the item is currently checked out at your local library
- your library doesn't own a copy but it is available at another library in the Sarasota County Library System
- all copies are checked out at all the libraries
If there is a waiting list for a popular item, your name will be put on the list and you will be notified when it is your turn. You may have a total of 3 holds at any one time. You may request materials online or staff can assist you.
Patron Online Requests:

Click on Search the Catalog

Choose the type of search (Title, Author, etc.)

Type in your search terms

When you are looking at the individual record that you wish, click on the Request button, choose the location where you wish to pick up the material
Troubleshooting Online Requests:
- If you receive an error message when requesting a library material online, contact your local library.
- Your library card may be expired, the material may be unnavailable, you may have reached your hold limit or there may be some other temporary technical problem. A staff member will be glad to help.
Staff Assisted Requests:

Call or visit the
reference desk at your local library and the librarian will place the request for you.

Your library card will be required to place a book request.
Materials Not in the Sarasota County Library System catalog
You may place a request for a library material if the library system does not own the item.
- If it is a newly published item you can make a suggestion for purchase. Contact the reference department of your local library.
- If the material is older than one year it may be requested through the Interlibrary Loan service.
