Interlibrary loans (materials requested from libraries outside the Sarasota County Library System) may take anywhere from two to six weeks to arrive. The majority come within two weeks of request. Some rare or hard to obtain materials may take longer.
Factors affecting delivery time are:
- rarity of material
- format of material
- availability of material (whether item is on the shelf or checked out when we request it)
- location of library where material is coming from
- lending rules of loaning library, including special fees
- delivery method - area courier, U.S. Mail, UPS, fax
- holidays and academic breaks
Patrons will be notified by telephone (or by mail if phone is not available) when their request is processed and ready for pickup. E-mail notifications and availability notices on patron records do not necessarily mean the item is ready for pickup at their local library.
The Sarasota County Library System currently employs several methods for obtaining materials through Interlibrary Loan. Because of this, there is not yet a process for library patrons to accurately track the status of their interlibrary loan requests online. If you have any questions about the status of your Interlibrary loan request, please contact the library where you originated your request or your local library if you made the request directly online.
