In response to many requests from the public,
Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Library, Venice, has launched
wireless public Internet access for patrons.
The new wireless service doubles the library’s previous capacity
for providing Internet access. Patrons are able to roam most of the
library with their connections and work wherever they like.
“We are pleased and excited to offer wireless Internet access through
the generosity of the Friends of the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library,
Sarasota County’s Enterprise Information Technology staff, and JCR Systems Inc.,”
said library manager Greg Carlson. “Right now, 10 to 15 patrons use
the service each day, on average.”
Patrons need laptop computers or other devices outfitted with
compatible wireless cards in order to connect. They must request
a password at the reference desk to begin their online session. Wireless
users may also request the printed instruction guide, which explains
the step-by-step log-in procedure and includes a question-and-answer
section. The two-hour wireless Internet sessions are free of charge.
Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library is located at 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd., Venice. For more information contact the Sarasota County Call Center
