Meet the North Port Library Youth Services Team
Our monthly programs are listed and described below. The schedule is available in print or on the website calendar (limit to "North Port" and "Kids").
Regular Programs:
Babygarten A program for infants from 3 months old to "steady walkers." This program consists of parent-child interaction and play, unison reading, an introduction to baby sign language, music and making homemade toys and crafts. Meet other new moms and dads and share the joy!
Walkabout A fun time for "the explorers" (babies walking with confidence). This program promotes the importance of early learning and well-being. It includes a short story, group social interaction with coordinating activities and music, sign language and yoga.
Story Tree If your baby is ready to sit down and listen to a longer story, this program is for you. We combine songs, a story, group activities and a craft with different themes each week. The appropriate age range for this program is usually from 2 to 5 years.
Forty Carrots A family program open to parents and their children from infants to 5-year-olds. This is an "open play" program with singing, toys and parent information and tips. Forty Carrots Family Center provides this program through their On Wheels Parenting Education Program.
Peer Power For children 11 to 13 years who are interested in helping and ready for responsibility, this is a volunteer and leadership program. Applications are available at the North Port Library Children's Desk.
Doggie Tales The Suncoast Humane Society brings in gentle animals who love getting attention and hearing children read to them. Anyone can come on by and read to the dogs. Children who are not yet reading can choose a book and pretend to read. Children who are reading can actually read to the dogs. Doggie Tales offers great reading practice for kids, and the dogs love it, too!
Developmental Toys There are developmental toys available for use in our open play area that is equipped with a refrigerator, stove and more. We hold a photo ID or library card while the toys are in use. In addition, there are also blocks and games that can be used in-house.
