The following assistive devices are available through Sarasota County Libraries:

Special Lighting Devices

  • Intense lighting, some with magnifiers

Reading Edge Machine

  • Computer scanner that reads text out loud

Magnifiers

  • In many powers
  • Many with built in lighting

DVS - Descriptive Videos

  • Films that narrate the details of the video
  • Books on Tape
  • Audio tapes of books - both abridged and unabridged.

Information

  • On living with low vision
  • Local, state and national resources

Computer Software

  • Zoom Text Xtra — magnifies the screen and speaks all on-screen text, echoes typing and reads multi-page documents.
  • Jaws — a speech reader software that will read the computer screen:  used on the Internet, library catalog and e-mail
Phonic Ear
  • Assistive listening device

Closed Circuit TV

  • Closed circuit television monitor
