Books-by-Mail is a fast, convenient service providing library materials to people who are unable to access the library collection due to a temporary or long-term physical or medical visual disability. Available materials include large-print books, descriptive video recordings (VHS and DVD formats), audio cassettes and CDs. The rich collections of the Sarasota County Library System are as close as your mailbox through Books-by-Mail.
The Books-by-Mail service sends materials through the mail in zippered bags to registered patrons. When the materials are due for return, the patron removes the address label from the pocket on the bag. The label is then re-inserted to show the library address and sealed with a plastic tie (provided). Patrons may also return the materials and mailbags to any Sarasota County Public Library location.
Specific title or topics may be requested by the patron, or selections may be made by the Books-by-Mail staff and volunteers. Formats which are eligible for the service are large-print books and descriptive video recordings. Patrons may request library materials by phone or in writing. Those already using the service may place a written request in the mail bag along with the returned library materials.
Library patrons who have access to a computer may also make requests by reserving items through SUNCAT, the Sarasota County Libraries Catalog. (Choose "Bookmobile" as the desired pickup location when placing an online request.)
